Nice one - but of course if I was being fussy I would say it was a token, not a coin :) (because its face value is greater than its intrinsic metal worth and was made for the Bank of England)

Nice find!

If the definition of a token is that its face value is greater than its intrinsic metal worth, does that mean that all modern coins are technically tokens ???

Yes, that's correct. Since 1816 we have had a token coinage.

Although in this case it was also a token rather than a coin because it wasn't struck for the royal mint - a bit like the later Bank Tokens of 1811-1816 (it's a bit akin to the current situation where Scottish Bank notes are not legal tender, whereas Bank of England ones are).
