wow  well done, I've always fancied trying panning, but what are the laws on this,
do you need permission etc ?

In France where we go you just apply online for a permit. Its free and always issued. The river runs alongside a campsite where we pan.
Many Gold rivers dont need permission other than the landowners but some rivers are alongside the road so you just park and pan.

In Scotland around Leadhills there are two panning permits that are issued but everywhere else is free
Dolgellau in Wales is free apart from a small area that has restrictions on panning

The thing is, where we pan is in the Southern part of France where there were a lot of Romans and panners are always turning up roman coins.
Have a look at the river at the campsite here

A bit difficult to say as that was from various times on 2 rivers but depending on where you are you can get a gramme or more a day. Find the right place and its 3 or 4 grammes

Heres some gold one of the guys who came with us found, he was only there for 3 days as well and this was the result of two day panning, but when we say a days panning its only about 4 hours per day as its too bloody hot.

Quite cheap really.
Pan is about £14 you make a pump yourself from drainpipe and a tennis ball and to get all the gold faster, a sluice
I make the best sluice in the world too !!
Check out the Goldpanning forum at www.goldpanners.co.uk (http://www.goldpanners.co.uk) you can get all the info for goldpanning there.

The good thing is, you can pan when the Detecting season is off then detect when the panning season is off (too bloody cold)

maybe A silly question but would detectors pick up them  small piece of gold from the bottom of rivers ??? as I have found small gold backs of earrings with my sovereign elite from beaches   ;) from good depths in wet + dry sand

I visited the Dolcauthi gold mines (National trust) last week. Its between Llandovery and Lampeter. Unfortunately about £7 to go in but all the panning stuff is provided and you can keep what you find. I found quite a number of gold flakes and a small piece in only about 20 minutes. I guess if you kept at it all day you could make it pay.

First question from the other Post.
Yes there is a lot of gold in France. It even has 2 professional panner who make their living from it. They usually work up in Ariege, but the waters colder up there.
I work The Gard and around Anduze in France. Half a gramme for a few hours panning is the usual amount but can be more.

Normal Detectors wont pick up gold that fine. Yep you might chance upon a nugget but the one big problem with France is the lead shot. I kid you not.
Take a look at this photo. All that lead shot and fishing weights came from a hole in the river bed that also had a lot of gold too
You would be better using the detector in the river for coins.

It does show the two types of my sluices, the smaller Backpacker sluice and the Bigger Supersluice

I love the backpackers sluice, if you don't mind me asking, how much do you sell them for? because I can see how convenient it would be, especially for days out.

This is my current beasty....not even got it wet yet :(

OK Firstly, Pon
Your wife will love it when she see the first gold in the pan. I tell you gold is the worst drug of all, but best of all women can use a pump and sluice and pan for gold too, its easy.
But the good thing is you pan for gold when its warm, they can sit and paddle in the river if they dont want to pan.

Chef : The small backpacker is £45 plus post, the Supersluice is £65 plus post.
