Title: Treasure Hunters On Sky>>>>>Painful Antics
Post by: Spooyt Vane on August 07, 2013, 02:09:27 PM
It would be a good programe, only for over the top displays of joyous out bursts in finding 1920 artefacts...Maybe i am getting touchy in my old age...The local cops look like schoolkids in my home town ;D ;D

It amazes me where they get permission to dig. Front and back yards ? Historical sites ? Watched one last week and I know they go over the top about most things but it is very refreshing to see the enthusiasm and absolute joy they show in finding what we would class as mundane finds. In that program they found an Indian Head Penny and did a 'Hammy' dance over it. Wonder what they'd say if they knew one of the Scottish members found one up there. ;D
I like the look of those knives they use but I don't think they'd be much use in my fields. ::)

Must say i do enjoy watching it, like Val said the enthusiasm they show can only be a good advert for the hobby itself, and they do actually get some good finds if not very old ;) Great advert for Garret aswell hehe.

what a pair of idiots jumping up and down when they find stuff i`d throw in the hedge, iam sure those 2 have been told by the programmers to act like that, becouse if i find a coin from 1890 like i did today you wont see me running up and down shouting ive got "juice",maybe if i found 3 saxon coins i would oh yea i did lol!!!! :)

I think this programme is the pits. Maybe I'm old fashioned, but I intensely dislike the term 'awesome' and it was used twenty five times in a programme lasting thirty minutes including the adverts. This was the episode where they dug three sites in New Orleans, including one in someone's back yard the size of my kitchen.Throw in half a dozen 'cools' and I start losing the will to live. Then there is the exciting finale where the detectorist deemed to have made the inferior finds is subjected to some kind of forfeit, like being tarred and feathered. Absolute rubbish, I'll never watch another episode.

They act like a couple of overgrown school boys. :(

If they came out with us they would have a nervous breakdown digging out real historical finds. ;)  Jerry.

If you watch carefully when they dig you can see that it,s already been cut out and things planted for the show otherwise we all know how many trips out it takes to get some good finds that would be worth filming. I,ve just finished filming a series for s4c on archeology me and my tek tin buddie did all the detecting on the dig site and it took 6 days of filming to make 2 one hour shows, will be aired early next year . We start filming the second series in February so will keep you posted.

Sounds good please remind us again as the programme will be one to watch out for.

Many years ago I took part in an episode of the "Two Men In A Trench" series with Neil Oliver and Tony Pollard on the Battlefield area of Sedgemoor,Somerset.

We all learned a lot from each other and its was great fun.

We were also watered and fed and all fuel costs covered for nearly a week by the organisers.

If you go to the Castle Museum in Taunton, Somerset you will see a whole area dedicated to this famous last battle on English soil and its gruesome outcome. ;)  Jerry.

We are living in the wrong country if you can belive the prices that they quote of the stuff they find $5 for an old bullet sounds high I've found loads and I doubt I'd get £5 for a bucket full.

Their idea of old and our idea of old are two different things.

I can remember going to the US and staying with friends in the 80's and a discussion about 'antiques' began and about the ages of some early american settlements and how old they were.
I stopped the discussion by telling them that my house was already 150 years old when America was discovered and THAT was old.
