Hi, im looking for digging equipment, i`ve got a decent enough spade (full size but with head re-shaped) but due to the size I struggle to carry it around, im looking for a strong trowel or cutting knife (if that makes any sense). Also a control box protector please.

If anyone has any of the above can you please message me with pic and a price.

One of the most popular spades in metal detecting is the Draper mini, it's very light and will last you several years if used properly and if and when the handle goes it can be changes for a conventional ash handle.
Asda Direct currently have them for £11.95 delivered or £9 if you have an Asda close by that you can collect from.

I think you would be hard pushed to find many people who use a trowel nowadays other than for lawns and parks ???

as Geoff says the mini Draper is a great little spade, small and light
but does the job. I've got the cheaper version of the draper, it cost me £6
at the local ironmongers, I've had it for a year and it's still going strong.

absolutely fantastic for detecting it cuts through sods like butter and is extremely tough and strong.

Thanks for the advice, the drapers been added to my shopping list, along with the garden knife. I was looking at the garden knives last night after seing them on a metal detecting show. (hanging my head in shame after posting an advert looking for a garden trowel) pffft !  ;D

brilliant spade  the draper , ive used 1 for ages now with no probs, i also use a saw tooth minelab dagger thingy {also very good for rooting round in holes} another piece of kit i use is a holster for me spade which attaches to my belt{ saves carrying spade around whilst swinging}.

draper mini shovels are ok but 2 short , lots of bending your back etc , had 1 for a while then bought a std length ash shaft , ground off rivets connecting old shaft to blade and fitted new longer shaft , result .................. small lightweight blade and a long handle , lightwieght and easy to carry and much less bending over whilst digging targets  ;)

Thanks chef, theres an asda near me so I`ll be getting one in the next few days, carling the holster idea sounds good I drag my shovel behind me (sometimes tie it to my belt) the hassle is carrying it to and from my digs because im on foot, I was thinking about a fold out shovel that I can get into my bag but the only thing is there not going to be as strong.

The fold up trenching shovels will break :-\ In these dry conditions I wouldn't even give it a days use.
Asda don't have them in store, you need to order online and pick it up from the store ;)

I`ll swerve the fold up shovels for now then I guess, I`ll have a look online now for a draper and get one ordered. Thanks Chef  ;D

the shovel hanger is {or was} called a in holster {saw it advertised in searcher years ago cost about £7 ,still going strong.
