My advice is stay off the wet sand as the ACE only likes dry sand

Hi Paddy I live near to Talacre and a couple of members of this forum detect there regularly. Be prepared to dig up bullets, bullets, and more bullets.

Hi Paddy,
I would suggest detecting at low tide and stay close to the base of the dunes but do not detect in or behind the dunes. Detecting or digging in the dunes is verboten!
You will get plenty of digging practice and find loads of bullets, shrapnel, scrap, and a few coins. Take care, the beach at Talacre was mined during WWII but I have never heard of anyone finding a landmine there. Use strong footware, there is plenty of broken glass in the sands and hypodermic needles sometimes wash up in the flotsam on the high tide line.

By staying close to the dunes you will avoid the quicksand and deep mud that one can stray into. I often have problems with dogs running up and wanting to see what I am up to. Most of the little four legged critters are quit friendly.

The next time Richie and I are heading for Talacre, we will give you a heads up.

                                                               Chris   :)

Hi Paddy,
I find beach detecting interesting but the above advice is good. After joining a club and moving to farm land, my finds started to improve. I now have an Elizabeth I hammered, Henry VIII hammered, George III silver sixpence, a Roman Grot, and quite a few more modern coins. Club membership also brings with it fellowship, support, and advice.  8)

I still beach detect but not as often as I used to. When beach detecting, I always try to do so with a buddy. Last year, at Talacre, a photographer was hit over the head and had all his photographic equipment stolen.  :o

Have you got yourself a Crown Permit for beach detecting? You are required to have one but can download one free of charge on the internet.

                         Happy hunting, and stay safe.

                                       Chris   :)
