Title: Help with Garrett AT Pro International
Post by: TJ on January 20, 2013, 01:20:52 PM
Help needed,
Just got my AT Pro international, went to try it in the garden GB 80 and put it in pro mode zero, iron discrim up to 30.

when i tested it 5 p coins were reading 50 with mid tone  and budweiser bottle tops 80 with high tone  ???
i thought the iron discrim was supposed to iron out the problem of bottle tops.
Must be doing it wrong , any advice most welcome.

It does in ferrous one but Bud bottle tops aren't iron and come in as "good"

I'm swinging an AT PRO but i have only used the coins setting with a bit of discrimination around 40 -44. Found some nice coins etc mostly Elizebethan pennies.
Switched it onto custom once but it just made loads of wierd tones. Straight back to coins setting and stayed there ever since.
Any pointers to adjusting the pro settings

I use my AT pro international set to the pro menu in custom mode, with the discrimination set to 35 (This is because I found a deep hammered Henry VII with a reading of 39 although most others come in above 45) I usually leave the Iron audio off until I get a good signal and then turn it on, even with some iron audio coming through, I will still dig if the main signal is sharp and clear, this is because some ferrous may be close or mineralisation is high.
I think the problem you are getting is high mineralisation or emi from overhead lines, there are areas in some fields that I have to move away from because the interference is too bad, this is not unique to the AT, as my e-trac and golden mask do the same in these areas.
There are a couple of things you can try, turn the sensitivity down 3 or 4 and see what happens, then try another Frequency you have 4 slightly different frequencies to try.
The other thing that used to frustrate me, was the lack of iron audio on large circular objects such as horseshoes or big washers,  what I do is raise the coil about 3 or 4 inches (75 to 100mm) if the signal has not dropped off it is a large object and I walk on. Probably why I’ve never found a Bronze Age axe.
Get used to the machine and listen to the signal more than the number, I personally think it is a good machine. Good hunting.
