Title: Posy Ring Post by: win on December 30, 2012, 09:06:23 PM Just watched 'Antiques Road Show'. Someone found a gold posy ring in a stream, the expert valued it at between 3 and 4 thousand pound. A friend of mine found one when detecting, the Treasure Valuation committee awarded him £350. Who is correct ?

I'd say that the T V C valuation is a bit low but closer to the real value. I've been dealing in gold for many years and In my opinion £650 retail would be realistic. Regarding the particular insrciption on my friend's posy ring, the British Museum bought the ring because they had not come across the inscription before. Don;t laugh it was 'Maids must say no.'

Most 17th century gold posy rings,are worth around £1000. Early 15th century posy rings, your looking at £2000- £6000 maybe more. Title: Re: Posy Ring Post by: galoshers on December 31, 2012, 04:03:17 PM i sold a elizabethan gold posy ring thru DNW auctions and it made just 260 ,it was a small childs ring ,engraved on the outside ,it was enameled in blue, red and white . but the tiny bits of glass fell out of the surface ,over time in the drawer.
inside was engraved 'not a truer heart alife ' the heart was actually a recess in a heart shape ,not the word. i did badly on that one and wished i had kept it in the drawer ,oh well i must find some more rings .i found 2 others in a high carat and a belcher chain in 9ct and a small earing in 9ct this year 2012 . |
