Title: 111112 - a day of two halves Post by: handyman [Alan} on November 11, 2012, 05:35:13 PM A beautiful day dawned and i set off nice and early to meet up with a couple of club members to explore a new field. Well, it wasn't long before the finds started coming up. We had everything from roman to modern day, with my colleagues getting a nice fibula and cut quarter. I get a wide range of finds including a nice pendant [any idea of date?] and a roman coin.
By 1 o clock we were on our way home when i get a call from techony, to tell me that he'd found a dozen Edwards! So making a rapid detour, i eventually joined him on a potato field ..... yep, he was referring to king edward potatos! So, rather than waste the time, i joined him for a couple of hours and boy was i glad that i did so. In between picking up some good quality spuds, i managed a nice roman coin and on my way back to the car to offload the spuds, i got another coin just below the surface. I was pleased with that one as its my first one ever! Enjoy Title: Re: 111112 - a day of two halves Post by: Neil on November 11, 2012, 05:40:40 PM Well done Alan - tis a thing of beauty mate - well pleased for you!

Just had one myself too with a huge slab of butter on it, yummy ;D My final score was 9 Roman bronzes and I think that the odd looking piece is possibly the top off a la tene brooch. Photo's tomorrow if I get the chance. Well done on the Cuno, well worth getting muddy for. Yes Val, I can agree with techony, they are delicious. [I must remember to take a bucket with me next time i get over there!!] As for his 9 roman bronzes!! you only showed me 4 you little devil! am looking forward to seeing the piccies later. happy hunting everyone and may your luck be as good as mine was today. Title: Re: 111112 - a day of two halves Post by: Val Beechey on November 12, 2012, 09:06:15 AM Now thats a find I can equal. I found some of them myself yesterday. ;D Only difference is, I was digging one of my own potatoe beds.
Went down a treat with the roast beef. Sounds like I'm blowing my own trumpet but I'm convinced they taste better than what you buy. (Must be the horse muck) :o ::) Val Title: Re: 111112 - a day of two halves Post by: Chef Geoff on November 12, 2012, 09:52:02 AM Well done Alan, a brilliant find. Not being funny but is it "official"? What's happening with the surface on the reverse, it looks as if it's flaking off ???
Title: Re: 111112 - a day of two halves Post by: handyman [Alan} on November 12, 2012, 12:50:47 PM Well done Alan, a brilliant find. Not being funny but is it "official"? What's happening with the surface on the reverse, it looks as if it's flaking off ??? Hi Geoff, i must admit that i did have some concern over it, but it is heavy in weight. I shall await the experts ruling once its been returned from PAS. Will keep you informed.
