Title: The Other Half Post by: Val Beechey on July 21, 2012, 10:53:35 PM The other half Alan. ;D
This ones got a little tale to tell. I was so pleased with the other one I showed it to the old guy that takes the money at the car park by the beach. He told me he liked half crowns and when younger he always tried to keep one in his pocket for good luck and as a stand by for emergancies but he always ended up having to spend it.. Well I wasn't going to give him my lovely 1954 coin but remembered I had another one at home. I sorted it out of the grot box, black as coke, and put it into soak. Took days to clean it up. I took it with me yesterday and gave it to him. He couldn't believe I was giving it to him to keep and that I'd remembered what he'd told me. He was near to tears and I found it very touching that a lonely old man could be so touched by a simple action. This ones gone to a good home. I had a Halfcrown off of Coppit beach last December There appeared to be more signals in the same hole But once again the water kept Filling the hole And I was digging like a madman Mucker Title: Re: The Other Half Post by: mucker on July 22, 2012, 07:36:41 AM Bye the way
That Halfcrown in sixties would have Threepence each way on the bus to Uxbridge cinema Sixpence to get in The remaining one and sixpence was spent on refreshments and A visit to Woolys to by an airfix kit It was not good to loose a Halfcrown in them early years as that was good pocket money Mucker Title: Re: The Other Half Post by: Mike on July 22, 2012, 10:11:30 AM lovely story val , well done in making someone smile

lovely story. Title: Re: The Other Half Post by: Val Beechey on July 22, 2012, 01:57:50 PM Know exactly what you mean Mucker. Not an easy beach to tect. it's always wet from the land run off. he next one down (Wisemans) is even worse. Rocks,Stones, shingle, loads of alumin. and run off. Never ceases to amaze me how many different signals come off aluminium.
I don't do much good on the beach but like the excuse to get down there when the weather is nice. Plus you never know who you're going to meet. Yesterday I ended up talking to a very nice young French Man. Oh that I was 30 years younger. :o ::) I used to get 2/6d worth of petrol in my Mini. The elderly man at the beach said they used to call them Nickleodeons. That was new to me. It was a simple friendly gesture that obviously meant quite a lot to Gentleman. It wasn't till I'd posted the topic that I thought to myself 'There's me calling him an old fella, he can't be much more than 10 years older than me'. Trouble is, as you get older, it's only other people that get old. ::) I s'pose a lot of people say about me 'What a funny old lady' Ah Me of My :o Val |
