Ive seen some barking mad prices, some as much as £750. As a newbie to this game I just wondered what detector you guys would say is the best on the market? The one that suits your detecting style and the ground that you detect on, every detector I have had has taken a few months to master and you make mistakes initially. Post by: mole on April 30, 2009, 08:05:29 PM Dusty theres no rolls royces only ford t,s some manufacturers mid range machines preform as good as their top of the range the only differance being less bells and whistles first look at your budget then try out a couple of your friends machines if possible if not go to a reputable! dealerand try a couple on a test bed if you buy of ebay secondhand be careful you could end up with a machine that you don,nt like or worst still a faulty machine also try to glean as much information on models that take your fancy on the internet and in magazines etc don,nt rush into a purchase take your time then you won,nt waste any money good luck ::) mole

Post by: detectordave on April 30, 2009, 10:40:31 PM Dusty look at it this way if a detector was better than all the others then the makers would be the only ones in the market.It takes a lot of time and effort to get used to any machine and the one thing they all have in common is they will all find metal.

I enjoyed Detecting more with my simple Treasure ace and i knew 80% of the time what it was before i dug it ! Its ok having a deep Detector but if its not there in the 1st place you wont find it You have to get used to a machine i agree but when your hearts not init its 100% harder Title: Re: What is the Rolls Royce of detectors? Post by: Debbie on May 01, 2009, 08:09:00 PM You are absolutely right Digga - if you don't walk over it, you ain't gonna find it, regardless of the machine you have. However, it is nice to have the confidence in the detector that if you have swung the search coil over a target, the detector will pick it up. When I first went detecting 26 years ago (I know, I don't look a day over 30 ;D ;D ;D) I had a second hand Viking detector bought for £15, and found loads of coins, both decimal and pre-decimal in parks and woods and all over the place. The coins were not deep, the parks had not been detected on before, so it was quite easy. Now, the competition is higher as more areas have been detected on, and the detector needs to search deeper. I know that ploughed fields can turn up coins and artefacts with each turn of the plough, but pasture provides more of a challenge. With my current machine, I am confident that if a good target is next to an iron object, the detector will still find the non ferrous item next to the iron. To a certain extent, you get what you pay for. :)

Ferrari = speed and bling Roadsters = Boys toys Land rovers = work horses None of them do it all and it's the same with detectors, if you want to cover all bases then you are going to need at least 3.
