Title: XP Goldmaxx
Post by: BottyBurp (Kris) on November 09, 2008, 06:12:43 PM
OK, I'll start this one off.
I have an XP Goldmaxx (not the power) it's a brilliant machine & with the small search head I find it great for getting between the rows of stubble.
I have modified it so it's fitted onto a Whites Stem.
It weighs next to nothing & is more than capable of making the smallest of finds under the noisiest of conditions.
I always run mine in the two tone mode for ease of use. ie Grunt = Walk & Chirp = Dig.
I wouldn't want to be without my XP.

And your MXT lol.  :D
I only use the 2 machines as the MXT works on wet sand and cuts through the corn stubble but I use the XP for everything else!  :)
I do also have a Laser Hawkeye & an MP Quattro but these are confined to the cupboard! >:(
People have told me time and time again to keep at it with the Quattro but I just can't cope with all the different tones all the time and when it does give me a good signal I seem to chase it all over the place.
The Hawkeye is very good but I don't think it will ever beat the Whites/XP.
I was thinking about buying a T2 but will probably get a new coil for the MXT instead.

i love my xp power its the only machine ive had that realy delivers the goodies

iron volume 1 oclock..iron threshold 5 max...sens 1to2  o clock....silencer pos 1

ive found quite a few celtics with these settings but the signal still aint great from a celtic coin they have a slight iron buzz when they come off my site

and its got to be in three tone for me always

I love my GMP (UK) !
But i hated the stem, so had to modify it a little.
(some extra rod, and grip from mountainbike)

Thanks, BottyBurp !
I was lucky, friend of mine gave me his  original stem i could cut into pieces...
(needed 15 cm and the extra piece with pop in pin thingys )
He did it more easy, just ordered an X Terra- stem and put on the XP armcup.
The lower stem fitted perfect, no need for drilling new holes.

A worthy detector to have. i`ve used the Mk1 & the Power . Liked them both . But i now favor the F75 personally. Its as fast (arguably faster by some)as the Goldmaxx in its recovery speed, but Finds Targets Deeper by using a lower kHz of 13.

The first out is the 36/30, this one is for the LF detectors.
Next model will be 36/30 G for us with the HF`s.

You get a searchcoil for the price of two, maybe twice as good...  Guess not !  :P
The low frequency coil should work better at this size, so i`ll wait and see if this is revolutionary engineering art .
Stock coil works well, so im in no hurry !

Would need to be a bloody good coil at that price. :o Think i will wait and see, almost  cheaper to by a lower frequency
XP machine  just for depth lol :)

hi phil if your on ploughed fields the goldmax is ok for depth but if it's pasture forget it as the explorer is much deeper. i had a goldmax power for a few month's and did'mt like it as i thought it was a surface skimmer so i got rid and got the 75. do you want me to come with you and find all your gold with the 75 better not old jonny would have a heart attack if the fisher found more than the explorer.  mike

Ihave had my gold max power for over a year. And i tell you i have found a lot of hammered coins olso, the machine is excellent on small finds,my self personally i think no matter what machine you have its being in the right place at the right time any way happy hunting  :D

I use the goldmaxx power and the 250 aswell, both have their attributes, but to be perfectly honest i preffered the mk1 goldie.

Why? well to me the tonal quality was far more informative than the GMP and it got to the point where i could tell quite easily what the find would be before digging ( IE; copper, lead, silver etc )  just with the varying signal tones that the mk1 would give. Depth was reasonable but it was the finds rate on ancient sites is where the mk1 goldie reigned supreme as where other machines may be deeper but would suffer from ground effect masking of decent finds due to heavy mineralised ground or iron infested ground, as where the goldie gets upclose and personal on such ground.

I would after an intense search with the goldie on the ancient sites follow up with the 250 as a sweeper for the deeper targets .

Hi Mole, i have used the elliptical and its great for finding the small stuff.

I seek really old sites to search and that coil was finding very small fragments of broken hammered coins aswell as complete ones, its not deep but amongst iron infested sites which most old sites are its ideal. :)

The 9" stock coil is very good for general use.

The concentric coil on the other hand was pants  :( ;lent to me by Regtons and with thanks it was returned quickly. :)

Hello Dazipoo  ::) Your not the first person to tell me the mk1 is more effective than the poweron the right ground conditions I,ve had very good depth on the sites with bad Iron contamination nothing comes close to it the explorer11 won,nt touch it !! went the Iron levels drop and depth is the criteria it,s the explorer that rules thats why quite a few people use this combination and they don,nt miss much  ;D good hunting regards mole

I buy most of the detectors on the market and if they are better keep them, if not they go. The new Whites V3 recently went after 250 hours of use.

I have a low frequency XP, but of the higher frequency models the Power went and the original Goldmaxx stayed.
Of the Fisher F75 and T2 I kept the T2.
No Explorer. The only Minelabs I like are the Tribune/Musketeer and Advantage though I do have a Sovereign with Detech and SunRay coils.
DFX went, XLT stayed though I should have kept my original "longbox" Spectrum.
Of P.I.'s I've had Garrett, Fisher, C-Scope etc and have ended up with three Eric Foster machines.

Getting a bit off subject. At the moment I think my original XP Goldmaxx is up for the chop. When it comes down to it the T2 has proved more versatile so I will have to live with the build quality or lack of !

Interesting info that Brian, I had the early minelabs as well and the build quality on the Tribune was appalling but the machine was great on any ground really, moved on to a musketeer and the depth was incredible, now use the T2 all of the time.
Was thinking of the Goldie but wanted a meter machine,

Hi Phil, :)
Goldmax is not known for its depth! Fisher-75 would be a better option you have the motion all metal mode and the very deep Static all metal mode. You could put a 15x 12 Sef on your explorer that should give you a bit more, If you know there's gold there and its out of reach then a PI should do it, the GPX 4500, or any top PI, you could use the 'marker' method if there's iron about. Good Luck with your search!!  ;D ;D

Get a Nautilus and you can add a good three inches over the best the Fisher 75 can do !

Hello Maxine the fisher f75 might be slightly deeper ??? than the goldmaxx BUT!! in amongst the Iron theres no contest just look at all the hammered being found by goldie users who needs a meter anyway audio disc is more reliable  ;D ;D mole

i owned a gmp and as you say you go by the sound which means you have to dig every decent signal including foil and coke with the fisher 75 anything 20 or under on the screen dont bother as it's coke or foil. it's all down to useing a machine you get on with and out of the two i'd rather have the fisher 75 over the gmp but everyone's different.  mike
