Post by: bleepinbeeps on March 05, 2012, 12:09:11 AM found one today ... 1926...really cool to get out of the ground.... its my first and being from canada never heard of a florin...pardon my ignorance... you guys and gal get florins on a regular basis? viva la detection

Post by: stickygreen on March 05, 2012, 07:41:21 AM I got some new land last week right next to a beach and in 4 hours detecting there i have pulled 4 florins out the ground ,but not silver and about 10 years younger than yours.So silver, i dont think they are rare but not as common as the non silver type.I my field anyway.

They were used right up to 1993 as 10 new pence. but most of the older ones with silver content were probably collected by coin collectors.

Once again I have to say 'If only I'd known then what I know now' ::) I think thats prob.where most of the old silver coins went. I have found one in the last year. My Dad and I used to collect Vicky bun coins (pennies) and pre-1920 silver coins way back in the 1950's when I were a kid . He has 7x bags of coins weighing six stone 4lbs :o .................. 1000's of coins which I've not yet found time to sort through. Must be one of the biggest collections still in existance I should have thought. I used to love half crowns as a kid . You really felt you had some buying power with a half crown.
