Post by: PHIL YNYSBOETH on November 09, 2008, 11:49:24 AM
Hi all
I know we arent awash with Welsh rallies and i think this is something that needs sorting out.
Could be a nice little earner for a private Orginizer or a Detecing club looking to improve there bank balance.
Have a look on the Wrexham club board someones posted a very interesting piece there on inter club Rallies

Lets have a can do attutude here  ;D

Regards Phil

A DetectingWales.com rally in Wales might be possible at some stage in the future, Phil. Although I'm a bit busy getting the site up and running to organise anything at the moment.

Hi Geoff

Great news i think that would put Welsh Detecting and the forum firmly on the map
I,ll look forward to hearing more about this in the future when you got more time  i can imaging how much time this forum must take up.
As you know im always full of ideas some good some bad some just plain insane lol

I was reseaching a medieval battle site near my home in the Cynon Valley i found this great site called Welsh Battlefields Society.
I thought they should get intouch with a Detecting club they want more infomation and we need land to Detect on
I could give you more info should you need it

Regards
Phil

Well, I have had a chat with a farmer here in N.Wales and interesting to note what he said...

He told me that the Welsh Assembly stipulates that all crops, once harvested must be ploughed back in to the ground and new crops sewn as quickly as possible. I dont know if anyone can make sense of this? I initially asked him for 10+ acres of land to hold a Welsh rally on over maybe a day or two. He said that unless its pasture (which he hasn't got any) stubble is a no no as it needs working asap!

Is he fobbing me off or is there substance to his claim?

Steve

Hi Steve

I dont know if this is the case not coming from a farming background.

Upland Farmers like where im from dont have this trouble because you only need pasture land for cattle and sheep

Thanks for looking around Steve and please keep up the good work

Some farmers can be very unsocialable its the nature of the job i think.
He may have been just trying to get ride of you

all the best Phil

Ste he was fobbing you of mate,Most stubble is left for weeks and weeks before the winter/spring/summer crops are ploughed and seeded and every farmer knows his planned timetable for crops. Try approaching them with that in mind and discuss it with them. Ive been to rallies in Suffolk and Norfolk where your hard pressed to even find a pasture field and theyve been planned and organised months in advance! Ian.

A Welsh rally would be a great idea, maybe a small one first to test the water, and bigger later on. :)
