That is probably the worst amount you can have :D Well at least for a new machine as you will be in the realms of the higher priced starter machines.
My best advice would be to look at the second hand market.

Not helping Stickygreen at all but the DFX is head and shoulders above the XP 250 on adaptability, remember you can't go anywhere near the beach with an XP and the settings on the DFX allow it to be used in a lot more environments at it's best.

I'd buy a Garrett Euroace for £250 and a pro Pointer with the remainder.

To be honest that is a very awkward amount.  Mmm  I recently bought a used Minelab Musketeer pro Advantage with 12" coil for £200 which  is an awesome deep machine with a lightning fast response rate , terrific seperation and very useable in streams and on the beach too.

The early Minelabs like the Sovereighn and Advantage  have become a bit of a cult thing recently and used machines still fetch good prices which is a testament to how good they still perform.
Only problem is they are awful heavy.

hi, i suppose it depends on where you want to go with it and do you want a screen or just audio? are you bothered about weight? i bought a fisher f2 (good machine) but found it to short for my hight and im 6 foot 3 ! what about a used minelab xterra (iv got a 305 and love it) and then you might have some dosh left for a probe. iv been told the xp machines are also very good, what ever you chose i hope you enjoy the hunt  :D

The DFX has been my most sucessful machine, and even though I have the T2 and Etrac, it still finds more than the other two put together. But I do know the machine, like the back of my hand. It's still a good machine, if you learn how to use it.

If I start finding too much, I just switch to the Etrac ;D that will slow down my finds rate!

Depends on how complicated you want the machine to be, if you want something easy to use then maybe worth looking at the Golden Mask 1+, really straightforward, robust machine. The Mrs has got one and on many occasions it has outperformed my T2. It's very stable on trashy sites and doesn't miss a trick.

Don`t wanna put the cat amongst the pigeons here but i`ve had a "Few" machines in my time  ::) & the "Monsterlabs" like the Exploder, Xs & sovs etc are good, deep detectors if you`ve got biceps like a Russian weightlifter or like digging "trenches" as if your re-inacting the preparations for the "Battle of the Somme" but if i was you i`d save a little extra & get yourself a Fisher F75 in the knowledge you`ve got a top machine, lightweight, fast recovery, fantastic discrim, top pinpointing(no need for a probe) & easy to use & will never feel the need to "move-on" again !  ;)

For the price, if you want a screen model and can get it for the price the DFX is versatile and capable.

For just a few quid more this machine will knock your socks off for depth and recovery but has no screen,
just audio. It is all terrrain meaning it will do all soils and black wet sand on the beach. New with a 3 year
warranty.

well ive had most fishers 1265, 1236x ,and now the f75 i think its ok a little complicated but i wouldnt say you dont need a probe ,the pinpointer aint fool proof ..but hey thats where i could be going wrong

Because I was asked by the UK distributor who I know to test my Deus against the V2i........
and I couldn't beat it!  I'm gobsmacked by the performance. I've never seen anything like it
before in detecting.

The V3 is the top of the range with even superior depth to The V2 and V2i !

I have ordered a V3 but won't be giving up my Deus as I can't dig DEEP holes all the time!

We hope to test it against the Minelab GPX in the next month or so as the owner of the Company
says it'll beat them as well!

We'll be doing videos of these tests as well.

I've gotta Say Markymark  if you go with RJM's advice and get a Blisstool , you aint going to be missing much. With no screen you can only go on the audio which means while the rest of the screen users are cherry picking their signals and missing a lot of on edge coins and dodgy signalling Fibulas,  you are going to be digging them.  :)

You should be a salesman Taff!

The owner of Blisstool is one the worlds leading authority on Robotics and owns another company
called Kibertron ( http://www.kibertron.com/index.php?l=EN (http://www.kibertron.com/index.php?l=EN) )

He developed the metal detectors as he though he could do better for cheaper. No dealers would
sell it as there isn't a fat profit and it might hit sales of other machines they do make a big profit on!
Hence my friend has the UK dealership.

The materials and compnents are all top quality as is the lithium battery....30 hours on a charge.

I don't get a cut of any profits...just buying one as I was so impressed.

I have been detecting for many years My 70th birthday is near   I stated with a new bfo machine that had a depth of approx 2 inches myfirst find was a gold ring on some dandunes and a silver sixpence
Over the years I have had many different detectors and to answer the question of which to buy for300 pounds i wold try
the well trusted laser rapier secomd hand or if you can get one at the rice a laser hawkeye
Both machines have had some incredible finds and both are just as good as the more expensive ones  good luck
