I found this at polden hill last rally ?  This was my last signal of the day was well happy with it as it was my first bullhead only to be told by Chef that it was FAKE so was wondering what other FAKE stuff been found.

                                                                     A large fragment of the obverse half of a forger's mould for producing counterfeit copper coins (probably pennies) of George III. It is very probable that it was made for casting wax patterns for use in the lost-wax (cire perdue) process. In this process, the wax patterns thus produced are used to make clay moulds. The clay moulds are then heated to melt and remove the wax such that they are ready to cast the counterfeit coins.

By fake Alun does this include finds found at a rally  at four/ five inches from an area that fifteen minutes previously you had maticulously grided. I still laugh to myself why people need to do it.  ::) ::)

Hi all, I found this fake a couple of years ago. There was a bit more silvering on it when I found it, but most of it came off in the soapy water.

Check this one out. I got two of these 1/4 cents from a pile of coins I bought on a holiday years ago. I never really looked at them, but the other day I found them at the back of the cupboard I was sorting out. I had a quick check on the net, and I think they are wrong uns. Look at the head, and then check the date ?... Somethings not right.

Another one bull head to collection. Both found few years ago at one farm, in north Scotland.

What is it with fake coins from the reign of ol George III?  I have three here from his reign, two are shillings but the third is slightly bigger leading Mark and I to suspect it might be a guinea forgery. Just as interesting to me as the genuine article, although i would obviously prefer to find a silver coin. :D

Like you say Chef, well dodgy. not the right King, or even the right metal (should be bronze/copper). I better check out the other dozen coins that came with them.  Any one good with Chinese dragon coins ? I suspect they are all made up for the torist trade, cunning little bliters.

the georgian coins where made prodominetly in the Midlands where a forgery factory was found.
The easy way to check is the flip test as the reverse should always be upside down is a true coin.
If its the right way up it is forged.

Spade guineas are prone to mass forging as so where the silver coinage. But think a couple of brass guineas in amoungst a pile of real ones would be differcult to spot as the gold plate would disgiuse nicely on a quick glance in a candle lit room.

Well mine would be ..(and not a metal detecting find may I add) the African Swallow I bought. It turned out in fact to be a European swallow and no the slightest bit any good for carrying any weight whatsoever.

No good for carrying coconuts then...?  ;D

Plus why did you think they were African? you should of known you can't buy them in Mercia. Those Mercian cart boot sales are renowned  to Offa dodgy goods ;D

Hi Everyone, I actually have found a number of coin forgeries, probably the best would have to be the William III Half Crown. And I have this curious coin, It's George II, but has silvering on the bust side still, when I first noticed it I thought it was a forgery, but then there are no George II silver Britania coins out there, that I know of, so then it can't be a forgery, and can't quite think what it was done for apart from being used in a pendant at one point perhaps? Any idea?

Found plenty of copper forgeries but I was well stoked to find one made of gilded silver, although the forger seems to have got things a little mixed up as the obverse side shows George II while the reverse side has the same arms as a George I guinea.  Just a shame its been dinged.

Eyes only find a few years ago but I reckon it counts.  A George 3rd 'Gaming Token'

I haven't got a picture ,but it was a copy of gold stater...It was gold washed ...I gave it back to landowner  :'(
