   will put up some coins from time to time as below for some folks to get familiarised with them ;)........................

Obverse portrait of Cromwell as an Emperor with wreath.
Reverse shield of the protectorate.

In 1738 new dies were made by John Tanner, the chief
engraver of the Royal Mint and some coins were struck from
them. These are known as the "Tanner Copies".
ner copies of the shilling are easily distinguished as they
have the (http://www.coinsgb.com/sitebuilder/images/_-24x27.jpg) after HIB omitted.

   1658 Silver, 6 grams, 25mm Diameter.

Hi Kev,

I find your post interesting as my mate have just brought a Cromwell shilling
dated 1658, it has the ( &c ) after HIB and looking through Spink all Cromwell's coins has this logo, surfing the net the only coin I can find with out it is a sixpence.
Are you saying the coins in Spink was minted in 1738?

I don't think you would find one in a field - at least I've not heard of one being found yet :)

They're getting mighty pricey at the moment - I've always thought about getting one, just wished I'd bought one in the '90s when I started collecting......
