Title: Some people will never learn
Post by: avalon on November 08, 2011, 09:51:27 PM
Just had an email off the farmer where I found my Bronze Age hoard, looks like someone has been doing a bit of Nighthawking, searching for any bits i've missed. I spent 3 months on that site and hoovered everything that bleeped. So if they think they can do better at night, I think they may need to eat loads of carrots. ;D They were spotted by the game keeper who has night vision glasses. I think I will join him on a night time hunt, see who it is. I should be able to spot them, in the light of their burning car. 8)

The biggest problem is when land owners find low life's detecting on their property without permission the police are rarely called so there is no real deterent.

The rest of us who detect by the rules get tarnished by those who do not.

If photographed or filmed it would be nice to name and shame online though.

Paul the vexatious blogger with incredibly itchy underpants told them where it was on his blog, with x marks the spot. Couldn't get better directions than that >:( His idea is to highlight every hoard spot in England and get them nighthawked. This is so he can then write about how bad the situation is in the UK, and get the hobby banned. The guy is completly mad

Some people have no shame and are a disgrace to detectorists.

Why can't somebody report the vexatious blogger with incredibly itchy underpants's activities to the appropriate authorities and make them aware what he's doing?

The landowner has asked me what action he can take, he is happy to report these people to the police, but if they just slap them on the wrist and not fine them, then there is no deterrent. I still want to find out who they are, so I can pay them a little visit. ;D

Well I now have all the info on these 2 people. They have been doing this sort of thing for 20 years. I have also caught them  last year on the same fields, so persistent offenders.
When I caught them they told me they have detected this land for 20 years, which is strange because I was the  Estate manager at the time , and I had never given them permission.

The game keeper knows I am the only one who is allowed to detect there, so he is always on the look out, for any strange vehicles parked on the estate.  He said he had seen red lights out on these fields in the past and thought they were poachers , but apparently he caught them this time during the day .

He drove past them as they got out of there cars and noticed they were dressed in camo, so he knew they were not dog walkers.
He then drove his  ATV up the lane waited 10 minutes, then came back to find them detecting on a seeded field . As he approach them , they then headed for the foot path, so he asked them why they had been detecting on the seeded field, and they said they were just ground balancing there machines, even thought he had seen them digging in the field.

They then walked onto the next field  which belongs to the Co op, and he then told them they also didn’t have permission there either. He asked them to leave and they eventually got back into there cars and drove off.
The game keeper said he will send me the photographs of the 2 vehicles they were driving, which were a white Volkswagen panel van reg X934VOT and a red Mazda 6 reg LOO9NPN.

He has asked me to provide any information about prosecuting them, as they were trespassing without permission, equipped to steal and damaged the crop.

I will just add this link, can’t think why >:(

What amazes me, if you are caught once why would you return to the same farm again and again. They have also been on another farm down the road, as I spoke to the farmer the other day, and he threaten to burn their vehicle if they ever returned. Which is a shame because he has now banned all detectorists including me, and this is the problem, if you don’t get permission, they ban everyone.

my mate went 2 a farm a while back looking for permission , the farmer told him to get back in your car and f off , the poor farmer was at his wits end with nite hawkers and day hawkers etc , gates left open , holes everywhere animals loose etc its gonna ruin it all for everyone , as you know steve farmers are very friendly with each other and it could spread like a plague and we will all end up detecting the beach or our gardens  >:( >:(

You can find these two muppits on the front cover of The Searcher or Treasure Hunter about 8 months ago. Name and shame I say.
