Title: whats this square thing?

out today for first time in 8 weeks!
any idea what the square object is? it has 2 grooves and is quite heavy  :-\ also if anyone has an idea what the other object is?  there is a crease running down the length, possibly lead??

No real idea on the square "thing", although it's reminiscent of a brush from an electric motor. the peice of lead looks to be a broken pencil (yes they were just lead).

Found one (square thingy) just the same the other day, tend to agree with geoff looks modern

Brushes from electric motors are normally very light in weight as there usually carbon.
No idea myself but I think that's the wrong direction.

Looks to me like a part from inside a big door lock. Grooved to slide with a stopped groove to restrict upward movement or drop. Dont think its too old though.
