Hi all,

I have just been given permission to detect from my first farm. I'm wondering if members will recommend a contract/agreement between myself and the landowner.

Any help or templates would be much appreciated

 :)

You'll find mixed responses to this. Some feel its a professional approach to use. others feel (as do I) that farmers are weary of signing anything
without legal advice (money involved) and its just easier to say no you can't detect.

I'm with Mike on this one and I never mention a contract unless the farmer asks.Without a contract the courts are quite clear that on treasure cases the split will be 50/50. The mention of contracts seems to take the idea of a harmless wierdo wandering about the fields with his little slade and replaces it with Indiana Jones and JCB's ;)

i personnally dont offer a agrement to the land owner just for a simple reason if its a yes its a yes and i explain with a friendly approch well hope we find a hoard and we go 50/50 and their reply is that will be nice  even on farmer told me 50/50 and he checked my hand and said you are a very fair fellla i said its your land and my machine will find it so it is 50/50 , try to explain that to the farmer and thanks him with a nice bottle of bordeaux that is the best agremment and trust me you will get more than one farm in a very short of time . just had few hundreds acres of land from a farmer, i invited for a meal for two as a thanks well that farmer got enough land to keep me busy for a very long time .
