Title: Coils
Post by: Sewin on October 08, 2011, 06:24:23 AM
I am considering the purchase of larger coil than the standard stock coil on my Minelab Safari for use on the beach primarily.
Can you tell me what the difference is in regards performance and suitability between a SEF coil and the Excellerator please?  Is it also worth considering the WOT coil?
A 15x12 SEF has 141 inches² area.
The 14" Excellerator has 154 inches² area.
A WOT 15” has 175 inches² area.
Apart from the small area differences, what else can you tell me please?
Thank you.

The Excellerator is now "old" technology and can't really hold a candle to the other two. I used the WOT for years with the Sovereign range and had some great results but when I eventually bit the bullet and got the SEF,
well the benefit was obvious and immediate. The SEF is far more stable and so can be run with slightly higher sens, plus the balance is better.
The WOT is still a great coil but is very "chirpy" in comparison.

Thank you gents.
Seems its SEF all the way then.
I have 3 so called harnesses, none do a good job, the only plus is that when I just let go of the detector when I want to dig, it doesn't crash to the ground.  None of them give any support as such when I am swinging as if I have them set up to support the weight, I then have to stretch the bungee at either end of the swing which sort of defeats the object of supposedly less effort.
Any suggestions of exercises Joel?  Am sure many would be interested.

I have several exercises involving a plastic drinks bottle containing sand to strengthen various muscles for fly casting.  The exercises can be done whilst watching TV.  Perhaps the same thing can be used to strengthen our swinging arm muscles.

Sorry to have gone off topic.
Will be getting a SEF and will let you know how I get on in due course.
Thanks again.
