Title: Roman Ring - Before and after pics
Post by: rjm on September 05, 2011, 08:35:01 PM
Below are the before and after pics of the ring I found at the Penmark rally. Just shows how cleaning improves the item and makes it more pleasing on the eye!

After extensive cleaning. A nice buttery colour.

That's being silly, Nobby.

It was nothing the dremel couldn't sort out without having to resport to heavy handed tatics!  :D

A gentle wash in soapy water would have been all I would have done to it.

If it had any value it has just depreciated to nothing.

If the pie was a collectors item I would have wrapped it up in cotton wool and stored it where no lunatic dremmel drivers could get to it.

Everyone has a different opinion.

Personally, I think it looks better with 1700 years of crud removed by electrolysis. I'll certainly get more
enjoyment from looking at it in it's present state than when it was found.

(PS: Pies are best put in a plastic bag in the freezer, and consumed within 6 months)

I love to act on my urges!!!!!!!!!!!   ;)

It's a lot nicer now with a lovely buttery copper colour. 1700 years of crud isn't attractive.

I'll be leaving the denarius as it is, brown.  It will shine up silver but the patina is attractive.  :)

You made me smile!  :)

I'm toying with the idea of getting an Excalibur to do underwater and beach detecting when I go on holidays. The finds should be even better and I'll get bothered less by people if I can get out wading.

Not only that, but it'll be cooler detecting in the water.

I used to do a lot of running (done the London 4 times) and piles of half marathons, etc. I'm getting back into it as
the weight has a tendency to stay on more as you get older.

Me and the Doc started teasing each other about weight. He was tucking into the pasties at our club Christmas party and was quite cuddly around the belly, shall we say?

The all inclusive holidays don't help but I've started using the gym on them to burn off a few calories. Taff is
looking well on his new regime. He's my inspiration!  ;D

You are crazy Bob - I thought you were joking at first! :)

I think a bit of a light clean and some wax may have had a better result personally, but it is all down to the individual.

I got a feeling if Potty Paul stumbles across this thread - you may well join the growing ranks of those DW members that have been "Barforded!"

Cheers

He's too busy chasing Avalon at the moment!  ;D

Nobody listens to him anymore. Even the archaeologists have had enough of his rantings. He's a figure of fun.
