Title: Who's head might this be? Post by: Jon1987 on July 31, 2011, 09:09:54 PM I know this is a very worn coin that's not much to look at, but I'm just a little puzzled on who's head is on it? The other side has Britannia on it.

No scale in your photo but probably a halfpenny :D

Post by: jtalbot0001 on August 01, 2011, 08:59:35 AM Hi Jon, just remember with coins that, from the rein of Elizabeth 1st especially, each monarch that featured on a coin, that ruled after one another, faced in the opposite direction to the one of the previous rein. So knowing that, your coin for instance could have been George I or III, as both faced right, but from size etc you could work it out further. And I don't know why but it seems that George 3rd coins is the worst for wear in my opinion, of any monarch, in terms of copper coinage, so even without knowing the size, I would have said it was George III. And if you happen to have a Spink Coin book, they use life like images, so you can place your coin exactly over one of their images and it will match exactly! Cheers, Jon
