Title: Scottish hammered Post by: benny on July 31, 2011, 04:59:34 PM Found this one today, obviously a long way from where it was minted.
I'm not very clued up on Scottish coinage so if anyone can tell me which king/mint etc. I'd be happy! Cheers. Title: Re: Scottish hammered Post by: The Doc on July 31, 2011, 05:28:28 PM Very nice benny. It's a second coinage penny of Alexander III, Class E, struck 1280-1286.
The mint is uncertain - it is believed the total number of points on the reverse stars indicates the mint. Yours has twenty, which is one of the less common ones but it is not known which mint it signifies. Title: Re: Scottish hammered Post by: Dodger on July 31, 2011, 08:04:04 PM Well found. Even here in Scotland, Scottish hammered are rarely found and prized when they do turn up. :D
