Hi all,

I have this medal that i found on the wkend it reads john ashby no 3 stock broker i have no idea of its age. i can get photo tonight does any one have an idea of its age and whats its for

there was a john ashby stockbroker at no3 bartholomew lane london ,in the 1850s

Quite interested to see the medal, I think it is a trade token.  The Number 3, I believe is the address of the stockbrokers. No.3 Bartholomew Lane. As that was his business address.

Description

TRADE TOKENS, Middlesex. John Ashby, stock broker . CU Token (35mm, 15.88 g, 6h). Struck 1824-1828. Man-headed bull left; below, JOHN ASHBY/ STOCK BROKER/ - No. 3 - BARTHOLOMEW LANE/ BANK / Man-headed bear right; below, calender and office hours.
From the Norman Frank Collection.

In addition to representing the bull and bear markets, the creatures on this token bear the faces of Nathan Mayer Rothschild and Moses Macatta, both powerful Jewish bankers in London at the time.

I've not had one of these tokens. I would say that this type was a glorified business card.  It has the business, the address and the days the business is shut.
