Post by: heather on May 27, 2011, 05:24:53 PM
Val sent over her hunting angel and she guided me over this !   Does anyone know what it is, we also found lots of 1940's pennies - so a fab day, and of course, on a site that "has been done !" lol so pretty sweet really  lol

Very well done Heather, not the commonest of coins around and yours is in fantastic condition. You've set yourself quite a high benchmark with that one. Keep it up

ohh I know, Im beaming !   thank you so much for identifying it for me :) and thanks for liking it as much as I do,  I shall have a good look now and find the right type.

It gave a rubbish sound too, and my son said, dig it as I was hesitating,  and I did, rather roughly because I thought it was another horseshoe, and this popped out.  Felt so bad then - could have cut it in half !  lol.

Brilliant day, absolutely brill.   :)

Hi heather

please forward the findspot and the pictures to your local FLO [finds liaison officer] for the PAS [portable antiquities scheme].

it's important that all finds over 300 years old are recorded on the national database.

if you are not sure who your FLO is, go to www.finds.org.uk (http://www.finds.org.uk) and look it up.

We will take it into the Museum, someone found an old hammered on this land and the museum bought it !   So that will be a nice trip for in for us, thanks for that Alan.    It is in superb condition looking at the ones on the coinage irish site.

Second Issue -Penny - Dublin -Trefoil of pellets on breast: year - 1280
Pellet before EDW -Roman 'N' on reverse. No symbol before C on reverse

Definitely the one - after putting on glasses, using magnifying class - lol.

Val, Im keeping the HA !   (hunting angel)

thanks again everyone, so so pleased - I hope more to come.

It was the old faithful that found it, the 25 yr plus !  lol   The whites dfx hardly got a sound, but to be fair it was not a good sound at all, its only that this field has history that we (my son and I ) decided to dig everything regardless, I wouldnt have dug it from the sound my detector gave.   Goes to show doesnt it !!!  Oh enjoying a large glass of cava !!
