Title: Roman Chef strikes again at button moon
Post by: Pipster on March 30, 2011, 05:55:17 PM
09:00pm I pulled onto the bottom field of button moon, Geoff was just downing his second cup of coffee, after a breif chat we were off......   A cold wet and muddy start with not a lot to show for our efforts,  already two hours in to our morning it was time for more coffee and a change of field, twenty minutes later we were detecting again. Then suddnely out of the corner of my eye, I saw a smiling Geoff gripping in his grubby little hand a roman  :o. He did tell me what it was, but I can't remember. I am sure that he will enlighten us later.....and what seemed seconds later there was a second bigger than the first , then I began to lose count :). Just about close of play, he topped it off with a William shilling....A wonderful day even though I felt like " Romanless Ray" ;D.lol

Great finds! Love the picture of the stoney field, apart from rallies I'm stuck on pasture 24/7, do anything to detect a field like that! Look forward to seeing some more finds later!

I was pleased in the end with my lot but as Phil said we found very little until late on in fact I had found no coins at all before the Roman grot, the Folis is of Severus II 306-307 so quite rare and the Billy III was just a icing on the cake.
Pipsters book clasp is really nicely patterned and I won't be consigning my bits of copper sheet to the bin so easily in the future.
A great day out, even if a bit soggy and roll on the next time.
