Well done Alan on the Lizzy Half Groat!

Is that a spot of gold peeking through the clod shot?!?!?

Don't leave us in suspenders!

If you still can't get that soil off it, try rubbing it with wire wool. It normally works for me  ;D

There's nothing better than finding a hammered except when it's gold.

I've just got back from Alan's after helping him clean it. As soon as he's got the vinegar and tomato sauce off, I'm sure he'll post it up.

I would suggest putting it in a barreling machine, and then try sand paper, followed by brasso just to make it shine a bit. :-X :-X :-X

What size is it Alan? Full angel is 30mm, half 19-20mm, quarter 16mm.

Elizabeth I, Fifth Issue, mintmark Latin cross on obverse, could be Greek cross on reverse?

Will be hard to find something better in your detecting lifetime Alan!!!

;)  10/10 mate a crACKING COIN ,YOU DESERVE IT MY FRIEND.NORDINE.

 Angel coin

The Angel coin was first used in France where it was known as Ange or Angelot.  In 1465, it was introduced by Edward IV in England naming it as Angel-noble, a new issue of Noble English gold coins.

The Angel coins are among the most popular coins in the history of British coinage especially during later and post-Medieval periods.

Named after St. Michael, the coin bears the image of the archangel trampling a dragon which represents the devil.  Because of this design and the Latin legend which means “Through Thy cross save us, Christ Redeemer” on the coin’s reverse side, there were speculations that the Angel-noble coins were used in healing ceremonies.

These, however, were never proven.  The Angel gold coins were minted until around 1664

thank you everyone for all your  kind words. it is much appreciated.

The find is certainly a special one. The landowner was also impressed with it when we showed him.

The coin will soon be off to the FLO for recording on the National database. It would be extremely sad if the records of our nations history did not have a note of its existence.

I wish you all every success in your searches and remember that regardless of the detector - you have to walk over it to find it. In this case it was aboutt an inch and a half below the surface, so anyone could have found it.

finally ...............................
Joking aside, beginners please note, that the only thing you need to clean gold is water and a soft toothbrush..... do NOT use any of the methods suggested earlier.

Cheers and may all your finds be just as exciting.

Might be a pipe tamper partifact. Looks like its meant to be handheld and poked into something.

Think I had better stop there.......
