Is there much to see of the legend - can you work out the lettering. I think they normally start with the legend after a stylised star or pellet. Grat finds and post Neil Title: Re: Great day! I think the seal is a very crudely rendered example of this one from PAS. I've adjusted yours to be the right way up. The inscription I think reads ALAS BOWLES, said to be a hunting cry. http://www.finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/240453 (http://www.finds.org.uk/database/artefacts/record/id/240453) Title: Re: Great day! Well done Neil Title: Re: Great day! Post by: The Doc on October 05, 2010, 06:50:46 PM On the weight, I can only see an A in your picture, not a crown.
If the A is definitely crowned, then it is Queen Anne period. if an A alone, this will indicate averdepois, indicating the system of weights. You would usually expect to see other marks as well - are there definitely none there? Title: Re: Great day!
