Finally got out this afternoon and all i found was these.................................bugger

Flares and 303's

These 3 are flash flares, I did find a live 3" phosphorous mortar on an old WW11 training ground, a completely different looking beast. Summoned the bomb squad and they blew it up.....3 days later.

Bloody hell mate that sounds a bit dangerous detecting around that lot must be loads of live ammo there.

not yet mate but if I do will post photos (at moment all this site has produced is about 1/2 cwt of 303 ,.38 ,.45 cases and bullets +  mortar fins (and 1 live phosphorus 3"). I have located at least 3 machine gun emplacements ,earth is still bare in places even after 60 years due to copper contamination.

phosphorous mortar  are they what are called incenatary devices?

I would think so Rob, I do know that after bomb squad blew it up, the council had to remove several square metres of top soil from the area due to contamination (and it it made a big boom and pretty bright light).
