Title: Help with ID-ing buckle please?
Post by: Cymro on October 14, 2015, 07:21:14 PM
Found this buckle while I was out with the detector today and I'm trying to fix it down to an approximate date.

Annoyingly, it still had the tongue attached but I lost it - must have been when I pulled it out of my finds bag to show my buddy. I did notice that something had fallen but assumed it to be a bit of mud . . . (plenty of that about today)

I've had a trawl of the internet and its design would seem to be 1600-1700? Any idea what its possible use may have been (shoe, bag . . . ?) would be nice too!

Looks like a spur buckle to me, well done.

Aahhh . . . thanks for that. Just looked up 'spur buckle' on t'internet and came up with the exact same one - mid 17th century apparently.
