Title: Roman or Celtic ?
Post by: celticspikey on September 02, 2015, 04:06:02 PM
Hi guys been out a couple of days this week,  I had this today with the old Deus, my gut feeling is its Roman and a possible pendant mount could even be military? Appreciate your thought though if I'm wrong.

What a lovely find Paul and your spot on with Roman and 10 out of 10 for military but it's not a pendant but a buckle pin, a few of these were found at Camerton which isn't a million miles from you which could point to them coming from the same legion (presumably the II Augusta) and invasion period. ;)

Wow I'm well chuffed Geoff, can't think how the buckle pin worked or looked having never seen one? Will look on Data base later see if there are any there. Thanks for ID mate ;)

No I can't see how these would work and still be visible either though I haven't got a clue how many straps and buckles a suit of lorica segmenta had but quite a few I'd imagine, what interests me is the fact that the one shown on PAS is from Herefordshire, again the II Augusta, and as the legion were stationed at Strasbourg before the invasion whether these are a common find/fashion over there ???
