Title: weekends finds
Post by: roughneck on June 22, 2015, 07:51:43 PM
Me and Ron had a few finds from a small field on one of our farms on sunday (see photos) and left the farm at about 6pm.  This farm has been very productive for us over the past months.  There seems to be military significance on the site, in that we have now found 6 military badges and quite a few military/uniform buttons.  A few foreign coins have also turned up.  Nothing special but lots of finds to keep us busy.
I cleaned a few of my finds from yesterday and Saturday digs to hopefully show better photos.  I found the James 1st Crowned Rose Half groat 1604-1619 and the barrel tap key and the old bronze button on Saturday whilst digging at a new farm.  Ron also had similar finds and will post his photos later.
The livery button and the military badge were found late yesterday afternoon after leaving the Gwent rally and visiting one of our own farms a bit further up the road.  The military button is a 'Star of the Order of the Bath' and is an officers 'pip'.  It is inscribed on reverse with the word 'ERIC' and dated 1916 which puts it in the middle of the 1st World War.
ID on the button please if anyone can help.
Cheers.   Tom.
