Title: Talacre this morning
Post by: Resurgam on August 17, 2014, 01:23:40 PM
With the wife safely tucked in and dreaming sweet dreams of treasure, I ventured out at dawn and made my way towards the sands. Wild winds tugged at my clothing and caused me to abandon the wearing of a cap; even the headphones would be unable to keep the headgear in place. Climbing over the crest of the dunes I was able to observe the retreating tide and the wind blown sand drifting the length of the beach like running water.

After an hour and a half of battling strong winds, drifting sand that kept filling my bag, and large rain drops that were starting sting, I gave up and retreated back across the dunes; only to get caught in driving rain. A trio of hawthorn bushes offered some protection from the weather until the rain should stop.

And what did I get for my trouble? A gent's Omega gold wrist watch!? Nope; three pieces of iron scrap, a crushed beer can, two .303 cartridges, six .303 projectiles, and a two foot long iron spike that was sitting at the base of the dunes, just waiting to impale some innocent child sliding down the sandy slope.

No luck for me but the sands are now a little bit safer.  ::)

Oops. me, I can't comment; I frequently forget things. Much to my wife's chagrin!

Hi Chris
I must agree with grego you were very brave going onto the beach in such weather conditions  :o.
Which detector did you take C scope or Garrett?

Regards Richie sixpence  ;)

Hi Richie,
I took the CS4PI and had a determined plan to carry out, but Mother Nature beat me into a retreat. Not content with driving me off the beach and across the dunes; she then opened the heavens and drove icy rain at me. I had to shelter under a group of hawthorn bushes and every time I tried to leave their shelter, the rain hammered down at me again.

It was almost as though the spirits of the sands didn't want me carry out my detecting plan for that day. Having pieced together a number of my earlier finds to the remains of a shipwreck that I discovered the last time I was out; I fully intend returning to the same place and giving it a good going over with the CS4PI. Will need a far better day though!  ;)
