Title: New Coil Finds
Post by: Val Beechey on April 08, 2014, 07:42:56 PM
Just had a new Ultimate 13" and played for a couple of hours this afternoon in my field.
Not a lot to look at. Just a selection of bits off part of my field, where I thought I'd done it to death.
The iron chunk with the copper bit sticking through  proves how sensitive the coil is with the smallest find being a tiny button, found at a good 8".
Also found a couple of pre. decimals, some more melted aluminium, a few odd shaped bits of iron, a wheel trim and the nicest and oldest find was the little buckle which dates from 1660-1720.
Looks like there's hope for me yet.  Steep learning curve though, very different from the stock coil.

Sure you will get on well with the new coil Val i use the ultimate coil on my Safari more than i use the standard coil, better ground coverage and depth  ;)

Well done Val how did you find the weight? See I wasn't wrong in the field test it does find mixed ferrous and non ferrous targets but what a weird tone ;)

Geoff,  must admit I noticed the extra weight.  I'd have to mix and match if I was out for any length of time.
I weighed it when it came.....605g as opposed to the stock coil at 545g.   Get the NEL back tomorrow, will be interesting to weigh that and compare.
It's very different to the stock coil. I came to the conclusion that with the sens. at 18 I was picking up signals from Australia downed it to 16  tried Auto and ended up on 14 and went between All Metal and a cross saved personal setting to Relic and only dug 2 way signals that I could pin point. That seemed to work.  I like it. And I love that little buckle  ::)

Thanks for the reassurance fellas.  All I need now is a GOOD site and I'll show you how it's done. ::) ;D  Oh and a new back. :'(

Dylan, there's nothing any good amongst that lot. Only the buckle, which is personal as it's out of my field.

The point is, the new coil is finding stuff where I thought I'd cleaned it out.  Does that mean I've got to go back over all the fields I've done in the last 4 years  :o

That buckle is nice Val, and as for redoing  the fields again, I'd say yes as you've nothing to lose

Thanks for the invite Nordine. Might take you up on that. I think you live not far from one of Johns older flying friends.
You'd love the Quad Copter he's bought.  Fly it up as far as you want or away, flip a switch and it comes back, on it's own and lands exactly where it took off from.

Dylan, for a sec. there I thought you were going to say 'as you've nothing better to do'.

I was thinking, there are a couple that would be worth a re-visit.

I thought I held the record at taking ages to make up my mind but I think you beat me hands down Shaun.

Final decision, base it on,  can I afford it,   can I swing it.  Take a tip from a bad decision maker,  don't go for 2nd best.

Geoff, Last time I saw that was in the U.S. of A, Don't know if you're famous or infamous but you sure get about a bit. ;D

I would add to that.  If anyone buys one, start off with the sensitivity low and go up. It'll save a lot of digging as this coil  is really serious about depth.
