Post by: matthewbullingham123 on February 27, 2014, 12:55:13 PM

Hope you have better luck than me Matt.
I've got a Fiat and had a fault that couldn't be I.D'd by my local Garage. He gave up in the end but didn't charge me, said I'd need the cash when I took it to a Main dealer.
Trouble is, only the Main dealers have some of the programs needed. Went all the way to Cardigan and left it with them. 10 mins after getting back they phoned and said they'd pinned it down to the ignition lock in the steering column and it cost £320.

I had mine done on my VW Polo last year. It cost me £30 for the diagnostics in order to find the fault. I think it cost about £145 to get fixed. It had been on for quite some time. I had to get it done prior to my MOT because I knew last year it was being classed as a MOT fail.

I've just remembered something Matt.  I have a warning light that comes on periodically. According to the book it means the engine is about to seize up.  It's a bit worrying to say the least.
I mentioned it to me youngest who is a car dealer up in the Midlands.  His advice was to detach the battery leads and leave for a few minuets then re-attach them.
He says it's a common fault with modern cars and usually doesn't mean what it says, they just get confused !!!!!! (so do I)
This re-sets everything and usually the warning light will disappear. If it doesn't then there probably is a problem.
Hope this helps.   It works with mine.

Val

Have you seen these Matt? they look as if they do what you want and a lot cheaper than a GM dealer I would think

Not necessarily Matt.  As the Garage owner I use explained to me.  They have a diagnostic machine with a broad spectrum of makes and faults but NOT ALL.
Only the main dealers are provided with the full spectrum programs.  Crafty Eh.  ;)

hi, Check the wiring/ connections/multi plug under the seats don't have the key in the ignition, try disconnecting them and cleaning the terminals with a solvent cleaner such as brake cleaner when dry refit and test!..good luck!!
