Title: GPS receiver
Post by: Chef Geoff on January 07, 2014, 10:01:02 AM
As some of you may know from previous posts I have tried many GPS units in the past and having to scroll through letters just to give your way point a name is a big turn off especially when it's tipping down with rain, so about 3 years ago I got myself a i-gotU photo-logger and as I always carry  a camera it simply means that I take a photograph of my find, press the button on the logger and when both the photograph and log are downloaded the software adds the GPS coordinates to the metadata of the photograph and places the pic on google earth. In between pics the logger also records your track so you know where you've been (you do need to set the track frequency quite short for better accuracy).
The one I use was superseded last year and the new one is on the Maplin's website as deal of the day for only £29.99!

As you can see it's a pretty small device so no worries about extra weight but remember, to get the full benefit you do need to carry a camera ;)

These are pretty good as Geoff has said, I've had one for a while, you can overlay the map on google earth and track where you have been within a few meters or so.
So now let's see anyone say a field has been "done to death".

Bought one but you have to use 'windows system' - (Uugg I feel dirty). Been looking for a Mac equivalent but no luck as yet.
You seen anything out there Geoff?
