Title: Possible celtic coin for ID
Post by: Rob C on October 29, 2013, 09:14:54 AM
Found in Shropshire on 27.10.13.
Weighs 5g and is approximately 22mm in diameter.
I think it's cast bronze, although I suppose it may be stamped.

Well done Rob, a lovely find and it definitely has all the hallmarks of a Thurrock type Potin but can I ask how accurate your measurements are? 22mm is a little large though not overly but 5g is a bit heavy?
I have to say that potin's aren't my area and it's definitely one to show your FLO and get recorded ;)

Thanks Geoff. I weighed it on my digital kitchen scales, which I think are pretty accurate.
The diameter varies from about 19 - 22mm.
Thanks,
Rob

Ah OK, well the accuracy of kitchen scales is never going to be to the gram so the weight could be nearer 3.5g and if so right for that type. Get it recorded anyway as it is an important find for Shropshire ;)

Just been notified by my local FLO that this is infact nothing more than a Farm Workers token, not Celtic.
Oh well, win some, lose some.
