Title: Someone's just taking the p...lol
Post by: Chef Geoff on August 29, 2013, 06:55:58 PM
I was out all day on Tuesday with DaMonkey and Daveha who had travelled down to experience the delights of Somerset detecting :-\ Well the reason I haven't posted before is that there were no delights :( at least not on the finds front, though Andy did find a rather nice Rose farthing (his first) and a Vicky sixpence, two Roman grots turned up but it was a very quiet day.
I did find a 14thC French Jetton and guess what?....go on guess?.......................I don't believe it >:(

you've only found one other, but you lost it. Until today, when you found it again!  [i know that feeling!]   ;D ;D

Geoff, shame on you for moaning about a little hole in one of the many fantastic finds you've made. ::)

I, on the other hand, was elated with finding the best thing I've  found so far. Hole or no hole. Remember it.

Val

That jetton looks a lot nicer after the quick clean :)

Not posted earlier as had carpet fitters in and busy sorting the aftermath out...

Yes it was quite a slow day on the finds front and really hot !  But still better than being in front of the TV :)  Thanks for the invite Cheffy :)  Be sure to PM me if you want another outing when those other fields are available, we might even get you down the pub ;)  ;D

Here's my offering from the day ...  very pleased to be able to tick the rose farthing off my wanted list :) and a roman grot to boot :)  Anybody got any info on them guys ?

The roman is a billon Antoninianus (double denarius) of Salonina, wife of Gallienus (253-268AD)

Wow thanks probono  :o that was a brilliant ID, thanks  :) I had it down as just a bronze grot, so it's about 60% silver then ?

No - by the time that was struck I think they were down to under 10% - at the end of Gallienus' reign you were lucky to get 1% silver!
