Title: Hello
Post by: Bluepuffin on January 09, 2012, 08:49:03 AM
Hi
I'm new to the forum - my husband gave me a metal detector for Christmas after I'd joked about getting one for a few years !

I'm from the Bridgend area in South Wales so have plenty of coast at my toes but just wondered if anyone could give me any tips for my first few searches please  ::)

I've downloaded my permit for foreshore searching but wondered what permissions we need for other areas.  There's an old POW camp not far from me but guess that is a no no as it's owned by the council I think, or are they approachable?

Many thanks for a great site and I look forward to getting to know you all.

Alison

Welcome Alison.

Councils are not always the villains their portrayed to be. I've found them to be quite helpful on several occasions.
I know the old POW camp your referring to quite well, as I used to photograph car rallies using the site as special stages in the distant past.
I'm sure there would be some interesting finds there if you can gain permission.

Welcome to the site, Alison.

Probably best to join a club and come on a rally. That way you can get some tips and see what
others are finding which will spur you on when you are just finding ring pulls, which happens
to us all at times!  ;D

Welcome on board,Alison and I hope you enjoy your new hobby.I started just over a year ago with a borrowed Garret 150 and had lots of finds including a gold coin. I was instantly hooked, but of course then it leads to buying a pro-pointer,better machine, earphones, leaving Hubby at home while you go out foraging and on rallies....Be warned!
Don't be afraid to ask for permission to detect-they can only say 'no' and we ladies can have the advantage when it comes to sweet- talking crusty old farmers.
Detect slow and low and have lots of patience and optimism. Looking forward to seeing your finds posted on here soon.
 Best of Luck--Mrs.S.
