Title: 20, petite and perfectly formed.
Post by: Chef Geoff on September 21, 2011, 04:32:18 PM
Hammy no. 20 that is ;)
I'd had enough of tiling this morning so managed to escape for half a days (5 hours) detecting and after wasting about 1 1/2 of those talking to the farmer I decided to try a bit of the fields that I hadn't quite got to.
Well after 2 buttons, 4 shotty caps and another hour things weren't looking that bright, but then came a small compact signal the type that tells you that the target is small and close to the surface, well after pushing soil here and there I was nearly on the verge of leaving it thinking it was a tiny piece of lead.............but I'm so glad I didn't..............

An Irish farthing which is a first for me, any info Peter would be gratefully received. Waterford ???

And this will show you why I had trouble finding it :o
(http://i693.photobucket.com/albums/vv294/Chef_02/P1000152.jpg)

A few minutes later I found the first Roman of the day, a Folis of Maxentius and my second in the last 7 days

This was quickly followed by what was once a silver washed Denarius of I think Constantine?

There I was thinking I had found a Roman patch, but it wasn't to be, no more showed their heads, but there was still things to find and this, probably 19th century, silver plated cuff link was next
(http://i693.photobucket.com/albums/vv294/Chef_02/P1000148.jpg)

Then I had a blasting signal and just inches below the surface was this medieval heraldic pendant, I was well pleased
(http://i693.photobucket.com/albums/vv294/Chef_02/P1000149.jpg)

Oh hang on :-\ "turn it around you fool"! Ahh! a Saxon stirrup mount with a lion.....now I'm reeeeeeeeeeally pleased
(http://i693.photobucket.com/albums/vv294/Chef_02/P1000153.jpg)

Well that was nearly all my goodies save for a good old half crown only 1949, but hey I'm not complaining ;)
