Post by: thehoods74 on September 17, 2011, 07:27:15 PM
these are recent forshore finds near a ww2 british merchant navy gun site.....anyone know what they are from/for???

first one is a small jam jar size metal object with heavy stamp marks on top from 1941. One has broad arrow on and the other doesnt but has large diamond shape mark with line above it and a C inside.  these pretty much littered the the area.

They look like practice rounds, or possibly sabots for mortar shells.

The last one with the round inserts looks a bit like a muzzle loaded mortar shell with guides for rifled barrels.

I am no expert but I know a man who is. I'll ask him.
