Title: Re: Possible flint scraper Post by: Radnor Bandit (Ian) on March 30, 2012, 09:07:58 PM Looks like youve got a lovely Neolithic blade there Al. If the notch in the long edge isnt plough damage, it could be a tool for striping bark from sticks to make arrow shafts or similar. a genuine swiss army knife of its day.
a great eyes only find Title: Re: Possible flint scraper Post by: DEADLOCK on March 30, 2012, 09:12:19 PM no its no plough damage Ian u can see marks from where the flakes have been chipped away. Thanks for responding well happy first for me :-)

Title: Re: Possible flint scraper Post by: anthonyjay on March 31, 2012, 09:14:53 AM It is a Notched Scraper on a Tertiary flake with semi-abrupt retouch on the left mesial, ( the right when viewed from the ventral side, pic 2 and 3. The top end is called the Distal end and looks as though it may have been used as a tool for boring
so the artefact would be classed as possible Side scraper/Piercer combination tool from the Late Neolithic to Bronze Age period. There is a good Platform at the bottom, known as the Proximal End, but no visible BoP, Bulb of Percussion. Beautiful find Well done Title: Re: Possible flint scraper Post by: DEADLOCK on March 31, 2012, 09:17:42 AM Thank you for the description anthonyjay Fantastic my oldest find to date :D :D
