Title: Whats your oldest hammered coin you have found to date?
Post by: Neil on October 02, 2010, 09:47:04 AM
We don't often tend to see many coins before Henry III on here.

Just wondering what early hammered coins we have found amongst us.

Mine is a Henry Ist 1100-1135  Its a bit battered and came out barely holding together and soon fell apart. Still pleased with it though! ;D

A penny of Burgred 852-874 AD, found near Gloucester in 84. I will see if I can find the negatives of it and scan them up.

This is the best I can do without rigging up a darkroom

This is my oldest hammered, I had this in a topic earlier on in the year. I know its an Edward Penny minted in London, but if anyone can help with identifying it further, I would really appreciate it, then I will know for sure how old my oldest hammered is  ;D
