Post by: chantalpoole on May 19, 2014, 07:49:38 PM
found this silver button about 2 weekes ago at the local pembrokeshire dig group ,didnt even look at it till i cleaned my finds bag out and noticed it was shiny under the dirt.gave it a bit of a clean up and found it has 2 hallmark like stamps on the back that says gr
button is about same size as modern 10p piece dunno what the gr means was wondering if it is geroge iii related ?? please excuse hands are covered in dirt from my finds bag and a bit of silver polish.

Hi Chantal.  Congrats on finding an interesting item.  Even if you didn't know it at the time. ;D

I've had a look at makers marks and I think it's the one at the top.   John Rich,  1797. Have a look, see if you agree. By the way, it isn't GR, it's JR.

Yes, I remember.  That's where I found the pottery shards.

Well done, I think you now have the find of the day.  Beats a cartwheel penny hands down. ;)
