I had absolutely no idea what this object was when it came out of the ground.

The 'hat' suggests that she had a purpose.

A fine selection Doug ... I wonder what your lady was meant to do.
The 'hat' suggests that she had a purpose.
What's the reverse like? Is it plain or same design on both sides.
Looking at the shape and angle of the flat above the hat, it may have been fixed butted perpendicular to its missing fixing.

I have to assume the 'lady' would have been suspended from the loop on her head, for what reason I have no idea.

No fixings on the back, the 'lady' is of a hollow construcion.
