New Farm

Results of my 1st proper outing (3 hours) to my new permission.  Very old pasture that has just been deep ploughed and disked ready for a crop. Still very 'lumpy' and very soft and uneven.
A wide variety of the usual scrap but a couple of very interesting clues to the age of the farm.  I included a small piece of very red brick, a small piece of window glass and part of a hand made (jug) handle.  A leap of faith on my part but they do tie in with what looks like a building platform on the available LIDAR maps.
My 2 finds of the afternoon were the Key top and a modern silver wishbone brooch. Had a heart stopper that turned out to be a bottle stopper, but a nice one.  Really thick metal that was gold/yellow when it came up. It has a date 1745 stamped on it and John found a reference to D D Distillers of fine Spirits 1745 so who ever lived there liked a good tipple. Note the tiniest button I've ever found, bottom right. Thank goodness for Mr Garrett.

Hi Val,nice to see that your getting back into the(excuse the pun) swing of things,your new ground certainly has an eclectic mix about it!!

Thanks Chris but to me the Key was the best find.  1300 to 1500 - great.  I've been waiting 5 years to find something identifiable  from that period.  Bodes well for the next big target,  a hammered coin.

Hey well done Val and well deserved. That's a lovely bit of silver and from the looks of it you may be on some productive land there. Now go and find all those hammerds and get John to do the digging for you.

Thanks Dylan. I live in hope. Those hammered are a bit shy on my side of the river but this farm has plenty of history and in a good location so fingers crossed.
Shame about your controller. Hope problem is sorted soon. You sold the Safari, didn't you ?   You can still use the Deus without it though so at least you're not totally stuck.

witsy, I certainly hope so.  I thought I'd never get permission to get on an interesting site, I've been turned down so many times.  It's def. in a good area, history going back to the Norman times and as I said I can clearly see what may have been building platforms, in two areas, on what we can see on LIDAR.  One is now intersected by 3 fields and the other cut through by a new farm entrance.
Alan, I have every intention of doing just that when I can get back.  John is keeping himself and me very busy at the present.  I think he's having a bout of conscience about the big garden jobs he's neglected over the last 5 years he's been flying his model aircraft.  He had a big falling out with some of them so now he's told them what to do with the club he's got nowhere to fly and is attacking the garden with a vengeance.  Me, being me, I feel obliged to help but I'm missing out on the detecting.
Patience is a virtue, they say.  I've waited all Summer for the wheat to come off now I'm waiting for John to run out of steam.

Thanks Paul.  Must admit it made my day. Something Medieval and a bit of modern silver.  One strange thing though. I've only had about 5 hours all told but haven't turned up a single coin of any age.
