Title: What Do i have to declare?
Post by: Stig(The) on July 02, 2009, 05:44:01 PM
Factfile for those amongst us that are unaware...........

 Treasure trove are artefacts found buried or secreted which are at least 300 years old;

• They should also have a precious metal content (gold or silver) of at least 10 per cent. They can be single items or a hoard of coins, for example;

• A coroner determines whether an item or items should be declared treasure trove after taking expert advice. If it is, it becomes the property of the Crown;

• Such items are then offered to the British Museum or the National Museums and Galleries of Wales and valued;

• If one of them wishes to purchase it, the value is divided between the finder and landowner. If not, the item is returned to the finder.

Not just gold or silver though Stig, that applies to coins, but if you find a hoard of say bronze axes they are also treasure trove and it goes on, so if something is 300 years old i.e. hoard of coins that isn't gold or silver , 10 or more I think they are also treasure trove!

bronze coins also count as treasure, had to declare a mini hoard of 10 bronze roman

any old bronze coins which contain 7 or more coins is also classed as treasure

ohhhh 7 old coins,  has it been changed then, ????? it used to be you can find 9,  but 10 would be treasure,
yes the same with bronze age artifacts ,  you can find one and say nothing, its not treasure, but more than  1 is,
