I have just downloaded my permit for crown beaches and the map for south wales crown beaches, I was quite surprised to see that there are no beaches that are legally detectable in the Gower that is covered by the permit. Also one of the most favoured beaches Aberavon is NOT a Crown beach.
I do believe that we are not allowed to detect in National Parks, BUT looking at the estate map it quite clearly shows that all of the coast of the Pembroke National Park is detectable.
Has anyone any clear and definite Knowledge on this issue?.

I think you may find somewhere in the small print they say all beaches except those leased by Councils, National Parks etc.

One example is from Amroth to the Estuary, at Laugharne, not on their map and leased to the Military with a bit in between leased by the Council and a bit of SSI thrown in.  All very confusing.
In the above case I've learned, the hard way, you keep off the SSI and known Military sections and the rest is O.K.

If you're thinking of going onto a section not marked in purple, always best to ask.

Hi Mike, why not join the Swansea Metal Detecting Club [ SMDC ] We meet once a fortnight at the Coopers Arms, Llansamlet,
on a Wednesday night, We have 50 farms on our books for rallies and 10 anytime farms.
This forum Detecting Wales. com have regular rallies when the conditions are right, both in wales and over the bridge in England , where as well as detecting, the cameraderie is second to none. Hope to see you on a rally soon

most national trust owned beaches tolerate metal detecting .Unless they are special interest ssi or protected sites.
even on national trust beaches you can detect up to the tide line as ownership starts at the tide line.unless the beach has signs saying no detecting and is open to the public i would just go on it.
This is what i was told by a national trust warden on one of the beaches i visited which is owned by the national trust.
You would have to be very unlucky to find a warden who will have a problem with a detectorist on a public beach digging holes where kids are allowed to dig big holes ect.

the only hassle i have ever had is from a 30 stone woman on barry beach callin me a scrounger lol.eh pot ,kettle black i chuckled to myself as i swung on lol.
download a crown beach permit for tenby etc then you are covered, just in casr you do getaproached,i never have Wink
