Title: pigeon rings
Post by: mickycoin "mick" on March 06, 2009, 08:40:06 AM
good morning all,  i was wondering if there is a procedure for "if" and" when" you find a pigeon ring. i think most of us have found one in our time, but the ring must be someones property, as it carrys a number. it would be of interest to find out what others do with them.    happy hunting   mick

I found one once Mick but it was too battered to read, I think you can contact the pigeon racing association who keep a record of all ring serial numbers.

hi thanks for the reply ,will wait and get a few more replys , but what you have said sounds good to me , i have 3 so will almost certainly report them to the correct organisation, or give the numbers to any one that is already into this type of thing. thanks again   mick

I recently dug up a pigeon ring with the pigeons leg bone in it!
I reported the number here -
http://www.rpra.org/Default.aspx?tabid=595 (http://www.rpra.org/Default.aspx?tabid=595)
It is for reporting found birds but if you go to the last page there is a comments box where you can state that you only have the rings.
I later received an e mail that informed me that the pigeon was from northern Ireland in 2001.
