Well, I suppose I must be a sucker for punishment but I have decided to give the sands at Talacre an other going over with the C-Scope CS4PI today and see if I can have some success.

The BBC weather man has forecast dry weather all day today and I believe that we can count on a good low tide this morning. Perhaps three years of research and investigation will pay off today and I will be able to catch me some nice finds following an almost imperceptible shift in sand in some areas of the beach.  Roll Eyes

It's just a pity that the days are getting shorter and the sun is rising later each day and going down sooner.  Sad

Aaaaah, the day was fine for it; started at the crack of dawn and worked through till lunch time. The area of Talacre that I had selected for my search was almost totally devoid of any WWII scrap and I only found one WWII .303 projectile.

Upon working my way down to the low water line; all I found was rotting pre-war boat fittings and one five inch piece of brass ( or copper ) pipe threaded into a rotting iron block measuring approximately 4"X4"X1.5" .  Topped up my tan though!  Grin

I have decided to give up working the wet sand until I can have a detector that not only is happy on wet sand, but it can discriminate out the iron.  Sad

What detector do you use? I use a Garrett 250 on my local beach and despite its bad reputation on wet sand, have found plenty - mainly lead fishing weights which give a cracking signal. Grin

Nothing like being on the beach though whatever you find.

Today I was using a C-Scope CS4PI, because I was hoping to pick up some nice stuff at a depth on the wet sand. The lack of discrimination can be a real curse though!

I also own a Garrett EuroAce and will sometimes use that when working dry and wet sands but normally have to knock the sensitivity back several notches when I move onto the wet stuff.

I find the EuroAce to be the bees knees when working inland and have even bought two new coils for it. I use a Nel Tornado coil when working large areas of grass and pop a Garrett 4.5 inch sniper coil on it when working very trashy areas or tight spots.
